2nd Place Winner—“El Corrido de la Familia Jiménez” written by Desert View High School student Nancy Jimenez. Nancy was sponsored by English teacher and Department Head Ms. Maria Elena Wakamatsu.
Desert View student poet takes second place in writing contest
Desert View High School student Selena Padilla took second place in the 9th & 10th Grade Category of the 2009 Polly Rosenbaum Writing Contest, hosted by the Arizona Educational Foundation. Selena will be presented with a prize package, including a certificate from Governor Brewer, at a special event on February 12. Her language arts teacher is Maria Elena Wakamatsu. Congratulations to her!!
Fresh Ink
Fresh Ink, an initiative of the Tucson GEAR UP Project, will showcase the writing and art of first generation college bound ninth-graders on Wednesday, March 25 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Sunnyside High School Auditorium as part of Pima Community College's Discovering Southern Arizona lecture series.
